New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park - Museum and Seaman's Bethal

Apr 15th 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Our tour begins at the Visitor's Center where we will view a brief film of the history of whaling in America. A 30-45 minute walking tour will be included which will point out historical sites which have been preserved, reflecting the buildings and relics associated with the history of whaling. These cobblestone streets inspired Herman Melville to write his great novel, MOBY-DICK. Participants will then have the opportunity to lunch in one of the many great seafood and Portuguese cuisine restaurants. After lunch, we plan to visit the New Bedford Whaling Museum which is one of the largest museums devoted to the history of American whaling. The collection includes exhibit gallery, a fully equipped whaleboat and humpback whale and rare blue whale skeletons. The history of MOBY-DICK is the subject of a permanent exhibit. A whaling film is also shown
