In Safe Hands: True Stories about the Men and Women of the United States Customs and Border Protection
Michael H Cunningham, an OLLI member and author of the recently published In Safe Hands: True Stories about the Men and Women of United States Customs and Border Protection, will talk about his book and his experiences. In Safe Hands is a compilation of real-life stories about the day-to-day activities of inspectors in the U.S. Customs Service. Whether it be at Logan Airport in Boston, the land border in Houlton, Maine, or 100 hundred miles at sea on a Coast Guard cutter, these men and women are tirelessly enforcing our laws. Drug interdiction, money laundering, and terrorist-related matters interweave to make one exciting and compelling story.
Location: Room 204A, 3rd fl., McCormack Hall
Presenter: Michael H. Cunningham has one previously published book, Walking Point, the story about his experiences as an infantryman in the jungles of Vietnam. After over 30 years in the U.S. government, the last 20 as a supervisory Customs inspector in charge of the drug and terrorist team, he is retired and lives in Norwood, Massachusetts. He enjoys spending time with his nine grandchildren and serving with the Coast Guard Auxiliary out of Portsmouth, NH. Teaching veterans who are making the transition from military to civilian life at UMass Boston is also his passion. Additionally, he is intimately involved with Child Medical Connection, a nonprofit organization helping disabled Vietnamese children receive medical care in the United States.
